Iran 1970 gathers Gabriele Basilico's photographs from an aborted overland trip toward Kabul, an 80-page black-and-white photobook tracing the road through Yugoslavia, Turkey and Iran that became the journey's true destination.
Described by one introduction as "Basilico before Basilico," these images catch a young photographer with a magazine assignment that fell through, discovering instead a way of seeing that would define his later work on cities and territory.
