INDEX by Sybren Vanoverberghe brings together two new series, Cabinets and Grey Card Gray, in a 400-page paperback monograph.
Cabinets moves through the dusty display cases and sarcophagi of Cairo's Old Museum, marking the first appearance of a human figure in Vanoverberghe's work, while Grey Card Gray gathers landscapes and architectural traces from Jordan, Egypt, Soviet-era Bulgaria and South Africa. Part artist book, part first monograph, it also collects installation views from recent exhibitions and a full index of work published since 2017, with critical texts by Ory Dessau, Elisabeth Van Caelenberge and Theresa Becker.
Vanoverberghe works across photography and display, treating landscape as a site where geology, politics and memory intersect — his practice built around photography's material form, from experimental printing to unconventional supports and framing that blurs photograph, object and installation.
