America 1970 presents Mario Schifano's photographs from a cross-country American road trip made while scouting locations for an unrealised film, an 80-page black-and-white photobook shot alongside Nancy Ruspoli.
Schifano moves through the Pentagon, NASA and long stretches of highway with a cinematographer's instinct, working notes shading into carefree moments; Ruspoli's own diary extracts and sketches close the book, tying two creative sensibilities to one journey.
