VISCIN by Yorgos Lanthimos

In his newest artist’s book, Yorgos Lanthimos extends his distinctive visual language with a striking sequence of photographs made on and around the sets and locations of his 2025 feature Bugonia. Taken spontaneously between takes, the images form a narrative of their own—separate from the film and its conventions. Moving between offbeat compositions, uncanny portraits, and evocative landscapes and reflections, the book builds an atmosphere of mystery and illusion, death and renewal, with the psychological intensity and eerie tone that mark Lanthimos’s work.

The publication’s format echoes the unspooling of a film reel. An accordion (leporello) fold creates a sculptural object that can be unfolded into a continuous sequence. The story develops through a progression from black-and-white into colour, tracing a line through foreboding, violence, and rebirth. VISCIN brings these elements together to shape a distinctive, enigmatic world.
