Avant-garde photographer and activist Germaine Krull (1897–1985) lived and worked across a turbulent century. Trained in Munich during the First World War—where she adopted the alter ego “Chien fou” (“Mad Dog”)—she went on to move through Europe and beyond.
This volume gathers her writings (many published for the first time), from manifestos and political essays to memoirs, written between the 1920s and the 1980s. They trace her involvement in radical artistic circles in Munich and interwar Paris, her work with the French Resistance in Brazil and Equatorial Africa, and her later life in Thailand and India. Illustrated with photographs and archival material, the collection offers a firsthand view of twentieth-century artistic and political struggle—and reveals Krull as a distinctive literary voice.

Photographe d’avant-garde et militante, Germaine Krull (1897–1985) a traversé le monde au fil d’un siècle agité. Formée à Munich pendant la Première Guerre mondiale—où elle se forge l’alter ego « Chien fou »—elle mène ensuite une vie de déplacements et d’engagements.
